Pride at Citizens Ballroom

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to photograph a styled session of with past couple of mine at the new (and amazingly stunning) venue Citizens Ballroom. The venue is located right in the heart of Downtown Frederick, Maryland. The beauty of this venue begins before you even enter the space, the timeless staircase that leads you to the entrance is a perfect location for couples portraits, wedding party portraits, and family portraits. Friendly passerby's wave and congratulated the couple (although they didn't know they were already married HA) which only provided more happy energy during portraits. Once inside you'll find a one of a kind wedding space. The bold stone, marble and pillars give you that luxury downtown DC vibe, without the hassle driving or parking in DC. The two classic bank vaults (see image below) are an extraordinary backdrop for photos.

I have to say my most favorite part of the venue is the kindness of the owner. She put out a call to open the space for any LGBTQ+ couples for styled photos. Supporting marriage for ALL couples is a huge part of my business model and personal beliefs. I do not tolerate hate, and strongly believe love is love is love is love. When I see wedding vendors that have similar beliefs and business models, I know I'm going to do my part in supporting them through and through. When I booked our time slot, it happened to be during Pride month which made it all the more special. Tiffany and Brit booked me back in 2019 for their 2020 wedding. We instantly bonded and I am so proud to call them my friends. When the opportunity at Citizens arose I knew I wanted them to be apart of it. TLC Bridal generously offered to loan us a gown and Mill Creek Florals put together a breathtaking bouquet and boutonniere. A huge bonus is that Tiffany is an unbelievably talented make up artist and did her make up herself! The Beauty Company gets credit for Tiffanys gorgeous hair.





The whimsical feel to the bouquet was such a perfect match for the venue. I really appreciate how Mill Creek Florals has such a unique take on wedding bouquets. She takes the time to create timeless, bold, bouquets with such dimension.




Something that sets me apart from other photographers is images like this. Taking the time to create a unique portrait that not only showcases you as the couple but the venue in a unique way is one of my most favorite parts of being a photographer. I always make sure to capture the timeless more classic photographs but getting creative is my jam.
